I have made the official book list called The Garrett Fiction Top Ten. To qualify for this list, I have to LOVE the book, and it has to have changed my life in some way.
Here they are:
#1. Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson (One of the first books I remember falling in love with. A beautiful, incredibly written perfection.)
#2. Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien (These three are the apotheosis of fantasy. How could they not be on a fantasy writer's list?)
#3. The Two Towers by J.R.R. Tolkien
#4. Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkien
#5. Elantris by Brandon Sanderson (Shockingly, stupefyingly original. As near to a perfect book as I have read and tied with Rothfuss's book in #8 for best fantasy since Tolkien. Seriously.)
#6. The Crystal Shard by R.A. Salvatore (#5 just knocked this down a spot)
#7. Captain Corelli's Mandolin by Louis de Bernier (The movie sucked; the book is amazing.)
#8. The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss (If you haven't read this yet, do it now. Right now.)
#9. The Truth by Terry Pratchett (One of the many Discworld. The best in my opinion.)
#10. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins (I've been reading Suzanne for a while; her Underland Chronicles are marvelous.)
So there you go. It was a challenge to come up winnow the list down to this, but I think this is really representative of what I love. Lots of fantasy, eh?

I have only read 1 of those books. Bridge to Terabithia. I remember crying when I read it. A lot.
I would really like to read Captain Corelli's Mandolin!
